CIRA Registrar Advisory - Priority = Low - Q3 Release Notes

To all Registrars,

Highlights of changes for Q3, 2007

- The operational changes for the production release of Q3 2007, which is on September 18, 2007, do not affect Registrar technical systems or applications.

- CIRA will be implementing some newly re-written system email messages for Registrants. The message identification numbers and subject headings for the affected email messages are provided in this advisory.

- There will be no release of municipal domain names for this quarterly release.


Quarterly Release Conference Call

In order to better serve the needs of the CIRA Certified Registrar community, CIRA will be holding a conference call on:

TIME: From 13:00 to 13:30 (the call will begin at 13:00 sharp, Ottawa time)

CIRA is holding this conference call to provide Registrars with an additional opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on matters relating to this advisory. An agenda is provided below:

English and French speaking Registrars are invited to participate. Questions will be answered in the language in which they are asked.

The call may end at an earlier time if business is concluded before 13:30. As a gesture of courtesy to all Registrars, and to take full advantage of your participation, PLEASE DIAL IN BY 13:00. This will help ensure that similar questions are not raised several times.

Your help is needed to ensure that an adequate number of lines are available to all participants. Please reply to lynn.gravel@cira.ca by September 10, 2007 to obtain a dial-up number and access code if you wish to participate or require additional information.


Re-written system email messages

As of September 18, 2007, CIRA is implementing some newly re-written system email messages for Registrants.

The message identification numbers and subject headings for the affected system email messages are as follows:

- ID # 1, Subject: User Account And Private Password
- ID # 11, Subject: Registration Procedure Needs To Be Completed
- ID #12, Subject: 24 Hours Remaining To Complete Procedure
- ID #16, Subject: New Private Password For Your Cira Registrant Account
- ID #17, Subject: Domain Name Registration Request Cancelled
- ID #42, Subject: Domain Name Registration(S) Renewed
- ID #47, Subject: Domain Name Registration Suspended By Cira
- ID #112, Subject: Registrant Agreement And Related Documents
- ID #156, Subject: Domain Name Registration Successfully Completed
- ID #191, Subject: Domain Name Registration Suspended For 30 Days Prior To Cancellation
- ID #195, Subject: Seven Days Remaining To Renew Your Dot-Ca Domain Name Registration(S)
- ID #199, Subject: Domain Name Registration(S) Cancelled

This email re-write project involves both merging existing email messages and also creating new messages. Some of the new email messages will contain variable data (domain name) in the subject line. Please note that CIRA does not support Registrar parsing of system email messages.

The content of the new system email messages will be available on the Registrar Web Interface on August 31, 2007. To access them on that date, login to https://rarweb.cira.ca/rars and click “Email Notifications” from the left-hand menu.


No release of municipal domain names

At this time, CIRA is not releasing any municipal domain names in accordance with the “Registration of Municipal Names Policy, Rules and Procedures”.

Refer to the document “Registration of Municipal Names Policy, Rules and Procedures“ (Version 1.4 – Effective Date: June 13, 2006), located at http://www.cira.ca/registrars-documents/ for more information.

CIRA will continue to identify operational improvements and proceed with implementation of solutions that facilitate Registrant, Registrar, and Registry processes. Quarterly operations releases, such as this one, will help ensure that improvements are communicated in a consistent and predictable fashion.
