CIRA President appointed chair of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization

OTTAWA - Byron Holland, the President and CEO of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), was elected as chair of the Country Code Name Supporting Organization (ccNSO) in Durban, South Africa today. Holland has been the organization’s vice-chair for the past several years.

The ccNSO is the body that represents interests of country code top-level domains, like .CA, within the structure of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). It is responsible for developing and recommending to the ICANN Board global policies relating to ccTLDs and coordinating with other ICANN supporting organisations. Holland is attending an ICANN meeting in Durban this week.

CIRA would like to thank Lesley Cowley, the outgoing chair of the ccNSO, for her contributions since assuming that role in 2011. Cowley is the CEO of Nominet, the registry for the .UK top-level domain.
